The CDEI (Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and MIND (Minorities in Engineering Division) have come together to collaborate on the Distinguished Speaker Nomination. This partnership aims to bring influential voices to the forefront, fostering dialogue on critical topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in engineering. By leveraging our collective expertise and networks, we are committed to creating a platform that inspires, educates, and advances the mission of equity and inclusion in the engineering education community.
We are pleased to announce that we are accepting nominations for the ASEE CDEI Distinguished Speaker for the 2025 Annual Conference in Montreal, Canada. The nominee must:
- Be an emerging leader in engineering education at any stage of your career
- Demonstrate expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Demonstrate expertise in giving an engaging presentation
Please submit your nomination by Friday, October 25, 2024. Whether your nominee is selected or not, you will receive a response from the committee chair notifying you whether we decided to move forward with your nomination no later than Friday, November 22, 2024.
Note: One of the criteria is for the nominee to be an emerging leader in engineering education. We intended for this criterion to welcome scholars and practitioners, at any stage of their career, who have made varying contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion and can provide insights about how to transform our institutions in ways that lead to small and large-scale change to the desired outputs, outcomes, and impacts for the broader engineering education community.
Compensation: At this time, we are unable to confirm whether we can provide an honorarium to the distinguished speaker for their time and expertise, due to budget constraints. However, we are in the process of determining if ASEE can at least waive the registration fee for the distinguished speaker. Once we have more details, we will notify the individual selected to serve as the CDEI Distinguished Topical Plenary Speaker. We acknowledge how soliciting an unpaid speaking engagement (re)produces inequities and are seeking ways to rectify this prevailing issue.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our professional development committee chair, Dr. Brianna Benedict McIntyre (asee.includes@gmail.com).
Before completing this nomination form, please confirm you have permission from the nominee to submit this nomination. We want to ensure the nominee is prepared to accept the invitation to speak at the annual conference if selected.
