NAVIGATE – A Case-Study to Overcoming Barriers to Advancement for Women in STEM

Title: The NAVIGATE Project – A Case-Study Approach to Overcoming Barriers to Advancement for Women in STEM

When: January 21, 2022 2:00 – 3:30 PM (Eastern Time)

Facilitators: Dr. Liesl Folks, Dr. Coleen Carrigan, Nancy Schiller

Abstract:

Many women in science, math, engineering and mathematics (STEM) continue to be dissuaded from pursuing lofty career goals when they encounter gender bias, discrimination, and inequity, reporting that they find it challenging to navigate these adverse situations to persist in their careers. The NSF-funded NAVIGATE Project provides free case-study-based trainings for women graduate students or recent graduates to support working strategically and efficiently to navigate past such issues.

Learning objectives:

At  the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:

  1. Be able to identify the need for skills-based career-navigation training for early career women in STEM
  2. Be able to articulate the value of case-study based training to address this need
  3. Have knowledge of The NAVIGATE Project as a source of training program and materials that might be of use in their own professional settings
  4. Feel comfortable with serving as a facilitator of a NAVIGATE case study in their own workplace settings
  5. Know where to find more information and download cases to use for their own trainings.
